Who We Are?

Our Farm

Philomena Farms is a multi-species farm in rural New Brunswick: we have pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, and of course, horses! The farm offers equine related services such as riding lessons, equine assisted learning, and boarding (see more in our services section).

Apart from the equine services, we also sell eggs and pork. It is important to us to provide the best life possible to all the animals who call Philomena Farms home and we take pride in giving them great care.

Valerie O'Hara

Nic O'Hara

Valerie O’Hara has been riding since her childhood in Ottawa, ON. At a young age, she absolutely fell in love with horses and everything they offered. She spent her teen years taking lessons, going to horse camps, and competing in small local shows. After completing her degree in Economics at the Royal Military College of Canada, Valerie moved to Oromocto, NB where she also found and purchased her first horse – Stryder. In 2019, Valerie and her husband Nic purchased the farm, and since, the herd has grown! While starting to transition from military life to full time farm life, Valerie became a certified instructor for English riding, flat and jump, in 2022 through Equestrian Canada. In 2023, she added a certification as an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator as well as completed a Diploma in Equine Studies from the University of Guelph. Valerie believes that horses are a life-long learning process and is always seeking to continue adding to her skill set and knowledge.

Nic O’Hara grew up farming with his Grand-father on a cattle farm in Stanley NB. After high school, Nic did a variety of work including construction, auto-body work, and personal fitness training before pursuing his passion and joining the military. Nic spent 10 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, and served with the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment for the majority of that time. In 2022, Nic medically released from the military and since focuses on the farm full time. He most enjoys spending time with the pigs and working in his woodworking shop.
